Agadir Airport to Tamraght: Taxi, Transfer & Bus

Tamraght has no airport, so you fly into Agadir Al Massira (code AGA). It’s about 35 to 40 km away, a 45 to 55 minute drive up the coast road. There are five ways to do that ride, and the right one depends on when you land and how much board bag you’re dragging. Short version first, then each option in detail.

One thing that catches people out: petit taxis can’t legally leave Agadir city, so they can’t do the airport run. Your options are grand taxi, private transfer, shuttle, bus, or your own hire car.

Taxi from Agadir airport to Tamraght: the price to expect

Grand taxis wait outside arrivals. The whole car to Tamraght costs 250 to 350 MAD, depending on how you negotiate, the hour and the season. Add roughly 20 MAD per large bag, and more after dark. The number to keep in your head is 300. Agree the total fare, for the car and not per person, before any bag goes in the boot. Drivers only take dirham, so hit the ATM in the terminal first.

If the quote won’t come down and the rank is busy, walk a few steps and ask a second driver. That’s normal here and nobody gets offended, it’s just how it works. I learned taxi prices this way, driver by driver.

Pre-booked private transfers

You get a fixed price, a name board in arrivals, and a driver who already knows where you’re staying. It’s 25 to 40 EUR per vehicle depending on the operator and the size of the car, and boards are no problem if you mention them when you book. This is what we tell tired arrivals to do, and it’s the only option we recommend with no ifs for landings after about 9 pm. Your accommodation can usually set one up: most camps and guesthouses in Tamraght have a driver they use every day.

The shared shuttle bus: 10 EUR, once a day

Souk to Surf is a private company that runs shared minibuses between the surf towns and the airports. From Agadir airport, one bus a day goes to Tamraght and Taghazout. It leaves at 3:15 pm, costs 10 EUR a person and takes about 55 minutes. You need to book online first on souktosurf.com, because the bus only stops where someone has booked.

Is it for you? If your flight lands by early afternoon, yes: it’s the cheapest easy way in. If you land in the evening, it’s already gone, so take a taxi.

Agadir city to Tamraght: bus or shared taxi

Coming from Agadir itself, not the airport, is a shorter and cheaper trip. Tamraght is about 12 km up the coast, roughly 25 minutes by road. Petit taxis can’t legally leave the city, so the cheap options are the coast buses and the shared grand taxis.

• Bus 32 or 33: the cheapest way, 5.5 to 7.5 MAD a ride, about every 30 minutes from 06:00 to 20:00. More in the bus section below.
• Shared grand taxi: 10 to 30 MAD a seat along the coast road. Wave one down on the main road. They get scarce around 9 to 10 pm.

Bus 32 and 33 from Agadir to Tamraght: times and fares

There’s no direct public bus from the airport. The budget route comes in two parts: the airport bus into Agadir city, then a local coast bus north to Tamraght. About 5.50 EUR all in, 1.5 to 2 hours plus waiting.

The second part is the useful one, and it’s better than people say. ALSA runs two coast lines out of Place Salam in central Agadir:

• Bus 32: Agadir to Taghazout, stopping at Anza, Aourir and Tamraght on the way.
• Bus 33: the same coast road, but it keeps going north to Tamri, so it stops in Tamraght too.

Both lines drop you in Tamraght. They run roughly every 30 minutes from about 06:00 to 20:00, take around 45 minutes end to end, and cost a few dirham a ride (people quote anything from 5.5 to 7.5 MAD, so carry coins). In Taghazout the stop is in the centre by the taxi rank. In Tamraght you get off on the main road.

The catch: with a board bag and a full travel day behind you, two buses and a change in central Agadir is the option you’ll regret. Do it to save money or for the story, not for comfort. Car hire

From about 19 EUR a day at the airport desks. It only makes sense if you’ll really use it: surf trips to Imsouane or Boilers, Paradise Valley on your own time, supermarket runs to Agadir. You won’t need it to get around Tamraght itself. For that, see scooter and bike rental in Tamraght.

Same road, same options, four more kilometres. Tamraght comes first. Taghazout is about five minutes further and costs the same or a little more by taxi, 300 to 350 MAD from the rank. Tamraght to Agadir and the airport: getting back

Getting back to Agadir city is easy: wave down bus 32 or 33 or a shared grand taxi on the main road through Tamraght. The airport is where people slip up, because Tamraght has no taxi rank. Book the ride the day before. Your accommodation will set up a driver at a fixed price, usually the same 250 to 350 MAD, or any transfer company will do the run back. The N1 through Aourir jams at rush hour and on souk day (Wednesday), and check-in at AGA is slower than you’d expect for an airport that size.
