Cost of Living in Tamraght

What a month in Tamraght actually costs: rent, food, coworking, transport, in dirham and euros, from budget to comfortable.

If you work from Tamraght, the number you care about is the all-in monthly one. For most people it lands between €900 and €1,400, the upper-mid band in the table below. That’s well under the same month in Lisbon or Las Palmas, and quite a bit more than the €500 you keep seeing in Facebook comments. The gap almost always comes down to three things: rent, how often you eat out, and whether you pay for a proper desk.

The month at three speeds

Same town, three very different months. The budget column means a shared room and lots of home cooking. The comfortable column means your own flat, and you stop checking what dinner costs.

What individual things cost

Day to day, Tamraght runs on cash. A card works at a couple of the bigger surf camps and one or two supermarkets, but your cafe, the corner shop, the taxi and your landlord all want dirham in hand. Get cash out in Taghazout or Agadir, because the ATMs in Tamraght can run dry on a busy weekend.

Rent: where your budget is won or lost

Local rents are 2,500-3,500 MAD (€225-320) for a studio and 3,500-5,000 MAD (€320-455) for a furnished one-bed. Airbnb charges two to four times that for the same flat. So almost everyone does the same thing: book a week or two online, then find the local price once you’re here and can knock on doors and ask around.

The cheap places hardly ever make it online. They get shared in the Taghazout & Tamraght Nomads Facebook group, pinned on a cafe noticeboard, or mentioned by whoever runs your surf camp. Where the €500 myth falls apart. On paper, a month here really can cost €500. In practice that month means no desk, no dinners out and a shared room, and most people last about two weeks like that. Plan on the mid column and get a nice surprise, not the other way around.

The other big costs

A coworking desk is about 1,200 MAD a month, and it’s the one we’d keep. Getting around is cheap: shared taxis are 10 to 30 MAD a seat (I learned taxi prices driver by driver), and a scooter runs 220+ MAD a day, only worth it if you ride most days. A week of surf lessons adds 250 to 400 MAD per group session, and a hammam and massage 350 to 585 MAD when the surf wears you out.

How much does it cost to live in Tamraght per month?

Most people working here spend between 900 and 1,400 EUR a month all-in, counting rent, eating out and a coworking desk. A lean month with a shared room and home cooking is 500 to 680 EUR. A comfortable one, with a nicer flat of your own and restaurants every day, is 1,090 to 1,640 EUR.

Is Tamraght cheap compared to other nomad bases?

Yes. A normal month here costs well under the same month in Lisbon or Las Palmas, and rent is where you save the most: local studios are 225 to 320 EUR a month.

Can you live in Tamraght on 500 EUR a month?

On paper, yes, with a shared room, home cooking and cafe wifi instead of a paid desk. In practice most people spend more. The 500 EUR figure you see in Facebook comments takes a discipline few people keep up for a whole month.

Can you pay by card in Tamraght?

Mostly no. Cards work at a couple of the bigger surf camps and supermarkets, but cafes, corner shops, taxis and landlords all want dirham in cash. Tamraght has about seven ATMs (see the map). Take out enough for a few days, because a machine can run empty.
