Run your business from Tamraght

Tamraght is a small surf village twelve kilometres north of Agadir. It is not a startup hub, and nobody here pretends it is. What you get is sun, fair prices, decent internet if you set it up right, and working hours close to the UK and Europe. Most days there is not much to do except work and surf. For a lot of us, that is exactly why we came.

Set up your base

Most people who come here to work sleep in Tamraght, because it is quieter and cheaper, and head up to Taghazout, 4 km away, for more cafes and desks. What works: book a camp or an Airbnb for the first week or two, walk around, then sign a monthly flat once you have seen it with your own eyes.

• Rent. A local studio is 2,500 to 3,500 MAD a month (225 to 320 EUR), a furnished one-bed 3,500 to 5,000 MAD. Airbnb is two to four times that.
• Leases. Agents usually ask around 500 MAD to find you a place. Signing for the winter? Get it in writing that the lease covers your whole stay.
• Wifi. Flat wifi is often 4 to 15 Mbps. Run a speed test in the flat, at the hour you would take calls, before you sign anything.

Get connected

Coworking spaces run fibre and hold up all day. Flat wifi is hit and miss. Cafe wifi is fine in the morning and slows to 2 to 5 Mbps in the evening. If your income depends on calls or uploads, pay for a desk. It is the cheapest stress relief in town.

Whatever you choose, carry a Maroc Telecom data SIM as a hotspot. Short power and wifi cuts happen, usually right before an important call. The setup is in internet, SIMs and backup data.

What it costs to run your work here

Most people who work from here spend 900 to 1,400 EUR a month all in, counting rent, eating out and a proper desk. The work part is small:

Day to day, Tamraght runs on cash. The cafe, the landlord and the taxi all want dirham, so take out enough for a few days at one of the ATMs in Tamraght. The full budget is in cost of living in Tamraght.

Rules and paperwork

Morocco has no working digital nomad visa yet. Most passports, including US, UK, EU, Canadian and Australian, get 90 days visa free on arrival. To stay longer, the official route is a residence card, the carte de séjour. People do border runs, but no official source treats them as a reset. Please do not overstay.

Getting here and getting around

• Airport. You fly into Agadir. We can book your taxi for 300 MAD per car if you message us at least 5 days ahead (our own offer; we earn a fee). All the options are in Agadir airport to Tamraght.
• Scooter. The ride to a Taghazout desk is six minutes. We rent scooters for 10 EUR a day, or 8 EUR a day from 7 days (56 EUR a week), brought to your door in Tamraght or Taghazout, insured by the rental shop, no deposit (our own offer; we earn a fee). See scooter rental in Tamraght.
