Carrying a surfboard on a scooter in Tamraght: racks, spots and tips
A side rack turns a 50cc into a surf car for the coast road, as long as you pick the right board, check the straps and respect the wind.
Updated 7 October 2026
The short version. Every dedicated scooter shop in Tamraght fits side racks, usually at no extra cost, but confirm when you book. Shortboards and mid-lengths ride well on a rack; longboards are a risk. Walk to Devil’s Rock, ride to Banana Point, Anchor Point and up to Boilers and Tamri, 25 to 35 km north. Check the straps before every ride and slow down when the wind picks up.
How a side rack works
A surf rack on a scooter is a metal frame bolted to one side of the bike, with two padded hooks the board sits in on its rail. Straps hold it down at each hook. The board rides upright beside you, so the bike stays balanced and your hands stay free.
The setup most riders use:
Ask the shop to load the board the first time and copy how they do it: every rack is a little different. Check the straps every time you load it.
Length matters more than anything. A shortboard or a mid-length sits comfortably. A longboard sticks out far in front and behind, swings in the wind and makes tight corners and parking awkward. If you surf a log, think twice before strapping it to a 50cc.
Check the rack before you ride off
Racks see a lot of sand, salt and sun, so the weak points are the straps and the bolts. Before you leave the shop:
- Pull the straps hard. If the webbing is frayed or the buckle slips, ask for new ones.
- Wiggle the frame. It should not move against the bike.
- Check the padding on the hooks, or your rails will pay for it.
- Load your board in the shop and ride a short loop before you commit.
Then do the quick strap check again every time you load the board, including after your session when you are tired and in a hurry.
Wind on the coast road
A board on the side of a scooter is a sail. On the open coast road, a crosswind gust can push the bike sideways without warning. Ride slower than you would without a board, keep both hands on the bars, and give trucks extra room, because the gust from a passing lorry hits the board too. The N1 carries heavy truck traffic and parts of it have no street lighting, so plan to be home before dark.
Which spots make sense with a board
| Spot | From Tamraght | Board on a scooter? |
|---|---|---|
| Devil’s Rock | Bottom of the village | No need, walk |
| Crocos | Short walk up the beach | Walkable; a rack helps if you are staying up the hill |
| Banana Point | 2 km south, by Aourir | Yes, or walk or cycle |
| Anchor Point, Taghazout | 4 km, about 6 minutes | Yes, the everyday run |
| Boilers and Tamri | 25 to 35 km north, about 30 minutes | Yes, the classic rack trip |
Village breaks. Devil’s Rock is at the bottom of Tamraght and Crocos is a short walk up the beach. Carry the board under your arm. Riding there means finding parking and leaving a bike for nothing.
Banana Point. Two kilometres south and flat, and some people walk it. On a longboard day, walk or take a taxi rather than strapping a log to the rack.
Anchor Point. In Taghazout, 4 km and about six minutes on the N1. It is the most common ride in the area and worth having a rack for on the big days.
Boilers and Tamri. This is where a rack earns its keep. Take the coast road north through Taghazout and keep going: 25 to 35 km, about 30 minutes, and a 50cc is the right tool. Boilers breaks over a shallow, urchin-lined reef and is not a beginner day. Tamri sits a few kilometres further up with beach-break options and far fewer people. Bus 33 covers the same road if you would rather not ride it.
Which shops fit racks
Every dedicated operator in Tamraght fits side racks, because most of their customers are carrying a board. Racks are usually included rather than an add-on. From our Tamraght scooter rental comparison:
- Surfway Scooters: rack yes, plus helmet and lock. Around 250 MAD (about 23 EUR) a day, half day 150 MAD. Pick-up in Tamraght, Taghazout and Aourir.
- Waves’N Wheels: board racks available. 240 to 310 MAD (22 to 28 EUR) a day by model, free delivery and pick-up from Agadir to Imi Ouaddar.
- Tide & Ride: rack yes, delivery yes, price on request via WhatsApp, online payment by Wise, Revolut or PayPal.
- Scoot & Surf: rack yes, plus phone holder, top case and key box. Price on request via WhatsApp.
- Small local shops: sometimes. Ask before you agree a price.
Looking in Agadir instead? Listing platforms such as rents.ma carry Agadir-based scooters with racks and free delivery from around 100 MAD (about 9 EUR) a day. The trade-off is dealing with a stranger in another town if something breaks.
October to March is high season, the fleets are small and scooters with racks go first. If you want one in winter, book ahead by WhatsApp rather than walking up.
Our own scooters
We also arrange scooters through a local partner: 10 EUR (about 110 MAD) a day, or 8 EUR a day for a full week (56 EUR, about 616 MAD). They are delivered where you stay in Tamraght or Taghazout with a lock and helmet, and a surf rack on request. No deposit. No extra insurance is included, so check your travel insurance covers scooters. We earn a fee on these rentals; the shop comparison stays independent.
Parking and leaving the board
Bikes left unlocked at the beach do not stay there, so make sure your rental comes with a working lock and use it every time. If you stop for a cafe after your session, take the board off the rack or keep it in sight. Before you ride, read riding the N1 safely and the rental checklist.
Licence and helmet
A board does not change the paperwork. A 50cc needs at least a car (B) or moped (AM) licence, a 125cc needs a motorbike licence, and a helmet is compulsory for rider and passenger. The details are in our scooter licence guide for Morocco. If you have only just landed, read your first 48 hours in Tamraght before renting anything, and see getting around Tamraght for taxis and buses.

Common questions
Which surfboards fit on a scooter rack?
Shortboards and mid-lengths sit comfortably on a side rack. A longboard sticks out at both ends and catches the wind, so walk or take a taxi on longboard days.
Is Boilers a good scooter trip with a board?
It is the classic rack trip from Tamraght: 25 to 35 km north on the coast road, about 30 minutes. Boilers is a shallow reef and not for beginners, so go in daylight and check the straps before you leave.
How do you carry a surfboard on a scooter?
On a side rack. Ask the shop to load it the first time and copy how they do it, then check the straps every time you load the board.
Can you put a longboard on a scooter rack?
It is risky. Racks suit shortboards and mid-lengths; a longboard sticks out far at both ends and catches the wind on the coast road.
Does Tide and Ride in Tamraght rent scooters with surf racks?
Yes, Tide and Ride lists a surf rack and delivery. Prices are on request via WhatsApp.
Can I rent a scooter with a surf rack in Agadir?
Yes. Listing platforms such as rents.ma carry Agadir-based scooters with racks from around 100 MAD a day, and Waves’N Wheels delivers between Agadir and Imi Ouaddar.
Do I need a scooter for Devil’s Rock?
No. Devil’s Rock is at the bottom of the village, so just carry your board. Crocos is a short walk up the beach too, though a rack helps if you are staying up the hill.
We arrange scooter rentals and airport taxis ourselves and earn a fee on those; nobody pays to be listed on this page. Prices move fast on this coast; we use roughly 11 MAD to 1 euro and date everything. Treat every number as a starting point.
