Surf lessons in Tamraght when you are here to work

How working visitors fit lessons, coaching and dawn sessions around calls, what a week of surf costs, and how to reach the breaks fast.

The short version. Surf before work, not between calls. If you’re learning, a two-hour group lesson costs 250 to 400 MAD. Once you can stand up, a few coaching sessions do more for you than a daily group. Five group lessons come to about 1,250 to 2,000 MAD (114 to 182 EUR). Plan your surf lessons around the work week

Tamraght works well as a base because there’s very little to do here except work and surf. The trap is a two-hour lesson that, with the ride there and a shower, eats the middle of your day. Block about three hours in your calendar for each session, and put it where your calls aren’t.

Time zone. Morocco is close to UK and EU hours, so a team in Europe shares most of your working day. That leaves early morning and late afternoon for surf. If your clients are in the Americas, their day starts in your afternoon, so your morning is free for surf and deep work.

Wifi. At a proper coworking space, fibre runs at around 200 Mbps. Wifi in apartments and cafes is patchier and drops in the evening, so don’t plan an evening call from a cafe after a late session. Take calls at a desk. See coworking in Tamraght and Taghazout.

Surf season and dawn sessions

The season runs September to April and peaks October to March, when the points work. Anchor Point is the most crowded lineup in Morocco, so if you surf it, go at dawn. Summer brings small, mellow waves. When the points are flat, the beach breaks in front of the village still give beginners something to stand up on.

Dawn is the best slot when you work: in the water early, at your desk by mid-morning. The catch is getting there, because before 8 am taxis are hard to find and the lineup fills fast. The water is around 15 to 22°C, so wear a 4/3mm wetsuit in the cold months and a 3/2 in spring and autumn.

Lessons, coaching or guiding when you’re short on hours

Learning from zero: a group lesson at an established school, about two hours, 250 to 400 MAD, usually with board, wetsuit and transport. Book them on your lighter days.
Short on time: a private lesson, 500 to 800 MAD for 1.5 to 2 hours. You pick the time instead of fitting into a group schedule.
Already riding green waves: coaching with a certified instructor and video review, 900 to 1,300 MAD. Two or three sessions a week, with free surfs in between, make better use of your hours than a daily group lesson.
Already surf, new to this coast: guiding. A local picks the right break for the tide, the swell and your level, and sorts the ride there. That saves you the hour you’d spend checking spots.

Booking surf lessons, coaching or a camp

Getting to the breaks quickly

Devil’s Rock and Crocos: beginner beach breaks at the bottom of the village and a short walk up the beach. No transport needed.
Banana Point: a long, friendly right-hand point in Aourir, 2 km south. Good for intermediates.
Anchor Point: in Taghazout, 4 km and about six minutes by scooter. A seat in a shared grand taxi costs 10 to 30 MAD.
Boilers and Tamri: 25 to 35 km north, about 30 minutes. Boilers is a shallow reef for advanced surfers. Bus 33 runs up that road.

Lessons at established schools usually include transport. For dawn sessions on your own, most people here use a scooter with a surf rack.
