The Guide

Your First 48 Hours in Tamraght

Airport to village, cash, SIM, wheels, food and the first surf: the arrival checklist we wish we had had. Plus a free personal arrival plan on WhatsApp.

Updated 6 October 2026

The short version. Withdraw dirham at the airport ATM, agree your taxi fare before the bags go in (or book ours at 300 MAD a car), buy a Maroc Telecom SIM on day one, and do not rent wheels until you know your routine. Tamraght is walkable; everything past it is a scooter or a shared taxi away.

Free arrival plan

Your Tamraght Arrival Plan

Tell me when you land and why you are coming. I will WhatsApp you a free, personal plan: airport transfer, scooter or bike, where to stay, real costs. From Luis, who writes this guide. Usually within a day.

I also arrange airport taxis and scooters and earn a fee on those; I will say so if I suggest them.

What is the trip about?

I only use your number to reply. No lists, no spam. If you book a taxi or scooter, the driver gets your contact.

Before you fly

  • Cash plan. Morocco runs on the dirham (MAD), roughly 11 to 1 EUR. Tamraght is a cash economy and the village has few ATMs, so plan to withdraw at the airport terminal or in Agadir or Taghazout. Cards work only at camps and bigger places.
  • Data for arrival. An eSIM such as Airalo covers the first hours; buy a local SIM once you are in.
  • Your ride. Decide before you land: taxi from the rank, a pre-booked transfer, the afternoon shuttle, or the bus. Night arrivals should pre-book. Details below and in Agadir airport to Tamraght.
  • Licence, if you will ride. A scooter needs at least a category B (car) or AM (moped) licence under Moroccan law. Bring a 1968 International Driving Permit if your licence is not in English, French or Arabic; UK licence holders need one regardless. See our scooter licence guide and scooter rental in Tamraght.
  • Visa. Most passports get 90 days visa-free; verify yours. There is no digital nomad visa yet.

Landing at Agadir (AGA)

Agadir Al Massira sits about 35 to 40 km from Tamraght, a 45 to 55 minute drive up the coast road. Petit taxis cannot leave Agadir city, so your options are:

Option Cost Good for
Grand taxi at the rank 250-350 MAD per car Daytime, travelling light, happy to agree a fare
Pre-booked transfer €25-40 per car Night arrivals, board bags, no negotiating
Souk to Surf shuttle €10 per person Landing late morning to early afternoon (one departure around 3:15 pm)
Two-stage bus about €5.50 Budget and light luggage; 1.5 to 2 hours

We also book airport taxis ourselves: 300 MAD per car (about 27 EUR), fixed, agreed on WhatsApp before you fly (our own offer; we earn a fee). Use the form above or message us your flight.

Day one in the village

  • SIM card. Maroc Telecom has the best data coverage out here; Orange and inwi also work. A SIM is 20 to 30 MAD and 20 GB about 100 to 120 MAD. Bring your passport.
  • Cash. Carry small notes. Taxis, cafes and shops expect dirham.
  • Walk it. Tamraght is walkable: Devil’s Rock is at the bottom of the village and Crocos a short walk up the beach. Walk before you rent anything.
  • Water and power. Drink bottled or filtered water. Power is 220V with type C and E plugs; EU plugs fit, US and UK need an adapter.
  • Two habits. Agree every taxi fare before you get in, and a polite “la, shukran” (no, thank you) walks you past unsolicited help. More in is Tamraght safe.

Getting around

Shared grand taxis run the N1 all day: hail one on the main road and pay per seat, 10 to 30 MAD between the villages and Agadir. They thin out around 9 to 10 pm. For anything regular, rent wheels:

  • Scooter: 20 to 28 EUR a day at the shops, from about 9 EUR a day on Agadir-based listing platforms, or through us 10 EUR a day and 8 EUR a day by the week, delivered in Tamraght or Taghazout, no deposit, no extra insurance (our own offer; we earn a fee). Compare every shop in scooter rental in Tamraght.
  • Which is cheapest for your stay? We worked it out for a week, a month and a weekend in scooter vs taxi vs car hire.
  • Bicycle: 12 to 15 EUR a day walk-up, about 5 to 7 EUR a day by the week. Fine for Tamraght, Aourir and Banana Point.

Day two: surf, work, settle

Common questions

What should I do first when I land in Agadir?

Withdraw dirham at the terminal ATM, then take a grand taxi (250 to 350 MAD per car, fare agreed before the bags go in), a pre-booked transfer, or the 10 EUR afternoon shuttle to Tamraght, about 45 to 55 minutes away.

Do I need cash in Tamraght?

Yes. Tamraght is a cash economy with few ATMs in the village. Cards work only at camps and bigger places, so withdraw in Agadir or Taghazout and carry small notes.

Which SIM card is best in Tamraght?

Maroc Telecom has the best data coverage; Orange and inwi also work. A SIM costs 20 to 30 MAD and 20 GB about 100 to 120 MAD. Bring your passport.

Should I rent a scooter on day one?

Usually not. Tamraght is walkable, so spend a day or two learning your routine first. If you will ride most days, a weekly rental is far cheaper than paying day by day.

What is the Tamraght arrival plan?

A free, personal plan sent on WhatsApp by Luis, who writes this guide: airport to Tamraght, scooter or bike, where to base yourself and what it costs. Fill in the short form on this page; no booking needed.

We arrange airport taxis and scooter rentals ourselves and earn a fee on those; everything else on this page is not ours and nobody pays to be listed. Prices move fast on this coast; we use roughly 11 MAD to 1 euro (July 2026) and date everything. Treat every number as a starting point.
